Breel Donald Embolo was born on February 14, 1997, in Yaoundé, Cameroon.
His parents parted ways when he was young and he moved with his family to France and later settled down in Switzerland.
He received Swiss citizenship on December 12, 2014.
Breel Embolo began his football career at the youth level with Nordstern. He transferred to the youth academy of Basel via Old Boys, in 2010.
He signed a professional contract with FC Basel in 2014 and made his debut for the club on March 13, 2014, where he came on as a substitute for Geoffroy Serey in a goalless against Red Bull Salzburg.
He signed a five-year deal with the German club Schalke 04 on June 26, 2016, for a reported fee of €20 million plus add-ons.
He made his debut on August 20, where he scored in a 4-1 win against FC 08 Villingen.
He signed a four-year deal with Borussia Monchengladbach on June 28, 2019, and later joined the French club Monaco on a four-year contract on July 15, 2022.
